Shane

As an avid Facebook user, I come accross a lot of "groups" (clubs for people with a certain interest or concern to interact). Although most are for comic relief, you'll always be able to find your "Save the Trees!" type clubs. Recently, I was invited to join a group called "Help Shane Bernier Get His Wish". Shane is a seven year old boy suffering from Leukemia who wants to beat the world record for most birthday cards received. Naturally, the picture of a boy in his hospital bed got tens of thousands to jump out of their socks and show support! There's just one problem here... that record was taken out of the Guinness Book about five years ago. I can't help but say that getting the public to go out and buy 350 million birthday cards, averaging at about $5.00 a piece, is selfish. Why not take the estimated 1.75 billion dollars and donate it to finding a cure for cancer! Oh, that's right, because the cure for cancer doesn't have a picture of a sick boy in the hospital. And for all the concerned members who spent their day making beautiful home made cards, you're out of luck, as only manufactured cards count according to the forums! So, as you seal this boy's fate with his last wish, and continue to send me hate mail, I will only reply with a rhetorical question: Are you shallow if you will spend the money on a card for a picture of a boy, and won't spend the money to make sure there won't be another boy who has to wish like this?
